Our nursery is a vibrant, inspiring and child-centred setting with exciting activities enabling your child to explore and learn. At The Brambles, children are encouraged to learn through their play and become confident and independent.

In our daily routine free-flow play is offered as well as activities guided by the staff. We have a wonderful outside area with a climbing frame, seating, sand tray, mud kitchen, polytunnel and playhouse.

Our aim is for your child to build a good relationship with our dedicated staff. All children are given a designated key worker who keeps parents informed of progress and development. Your child’s care and experiences will naturally change as they transition from the baby room to the nursery room.

The nursery cares for children from birth to 5 years, as well as offering after- school activities for primary school children. We are located on the campus of Cape Cornwall School, across the road from St Just Primary School and we have good liaison relationship with both schools.

Just a little safety app for all parents...

Do you have children who are old enough to have their own mobile phone? If yes, download the HOLLIE Guard APP for them. If they are walking home late or alone, they can switch it on, and you can track them. If someone approaches and they feel unsafe they can shake their phone. It sets off a high-pitched alarm from their phone and also messages an alert to you (or whoever's number is entered in as a guardian)

CHICKENS

Last summer, we were very successful in hatching chicken eggs in our new incubator, watching their progress using the 'candlelight', ensuring a chick was inside. Once hatched they stayed in the warming box until ready to venture out in the garden where they had a lovely new chicken coop to explore!! The incubator, warming box, heat lamp and the coop with integral hen house have all been purchased with funding monies, so a big 'thank you' to all those involved!!. The children had such a wonderful experience observing all the changes and especially handling the little chicks and the aim will be to see the life cycle complete when the hens start laying eggs themselves!!!

Our five chickens (four males and one female) are now very established in their coup in the Nature Garden, Alice and the children are doing a marvellous job moving them around to fresh grass and feeding them daily. This New Year the young hen has actually laid two eggs so far!!!! 🙂

Information about children's physical development

Children require 3 hours of exercise a day and being involved in physical activities will promote; muscle building, bone strengthening and cardiovascular development. Research shows being outside reduces emotions of stress and anxiety and has shown that as little as 5 minutes of exercise can reduce cortisol in the brain, which inevitably improves self-esteem, mental health and well-being.

30 hours free Childcare Campaign

From April 2024 all children will be entitled to 15 hours free childcare after their 2nd birthday. From September 2024 all children from the age of nine months will be eligible for 15 hours. From September 2025 children from nine months will be entitled to 30 hours, subject to parents working 16+ hours (as it is now) - but this could change if parties do!
